First Woman to Attend ‘Men Only’ State College in South Carolina
After learning about The Citadel, a state-funded school that did not allow women to attend, Shannon Faulkner asked her guidance counselor to apply on her behalf with a pronoun-free application. She was subsequently accepted, but when The Citadel found out she was a woman, they rescinded their acceptance. She did what any 17-year-old facing gender discrimination would do: she hired a lawyer.
